Project #1: Apocalyptic Diptych
Artist Statement:
On the first day of class when selecting a theme, I really wanted to go with the puppies. But the apocalypse is pretty butt kicking too. When Fantasia and I were paired up, we didn't understand the full context of what an "apocalypse" really is and upon further investigation through the wonders of Google search a definition that popped up was, "An event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale." From there I instantly thought, "Nerd culture!" I'm a novice when it comes to all things geeky, but it's never too late to start enjoying classic comics and video games. A while ago there has been a HUGE debate on sexism in this subculture and I can feel a great end to it. Even though a lot of the women featured in my piece aren't considered "nerdy" some of them are women that I looked up to as a kid and thought they deserved to be presented as an example. So this is volume one of "Total Annihilation: Wonder Women."
